Mother Magnolia Jackson

Mother Magnolia Jackson, 91, departed this life on September 9, 2011, in the comfort of her home and in the presence of her loving family. Magnolia Jackson, was born to the late Rosie and Samuel Tucker, on December 7, 1919, in Starkville, Mississippi. She was preceded in death by: her husband, Fred Jackson; her daughter, Ethel Smith-Robertson; both parents; one brother, Samuel Tucker, Jr.; and five sisters: Mary, Minnie, Maggie, Rosie, and Martha Tucker. She confessed her faith in Christ at an early age and united with Union Grove Missionary Baptist Church, under the late Rev. B T McSwine, in Greenwood, Mississippi and served faithfully as an usher. Magnolia married Mr. Henry Smith; to this union, one daughter Ethel was born. Mr. Smith and Ethel Smith-Robertson preceded Magnolia in death. Magnolia later married Mr. Fred Jackson; to this union one son: Willie Jackson was born. Mr. Jackson preceded Magnolia in death. Mother Magnolia was a successful business woman and was also an Eastern Star, in Chapter #38, in Greenwood-Leflore, Mississippi. She retired from the Greenwood-Leflore school district and her business in 1994. She later moved to Flint, Michigan with her daughter Ethel and became a member of Christian Love Baptist Church, under the leadership of Pastor Timothy Hicks. In 2007, Magnolia moved to Kansas City where she lived with her faithful grandson and his wife, Harvey and Patricia Martin. She joined Oak Ridge Missionary Baptist Church, where she became a Mother of the church, under the leadership of Dr. Ricky D. Turner, Sr. Pastor. Mother Magnolia Jackson leaves to cherish her beloved memory: one son, Willie (Ada) Tucker, of Memphis, TN; two stepdaughters: Mary Blue, of Greenwood, MS; and Virginia Sutton, of Hartford,CT; one granddaughter, Natasha Jackson; and one grandson, Harvey (Patricia) Martin. Visitation will be held Sunday, Sept 18 at Slider Funeral Home from 1-3pm. Tribute service will be held Monday Sept 19 at 12 noon at Oak Ridge Baptist Church, in Kansas City, Kansas. Internment will be held at Chapel Hill Cemetery. Thoughtful and sincere services are provided by Slider Funeral Home 913-573-2020.
